Amtrak: more passengers on Chicago-St. Louis route

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A lot more people are taking the train that runs between St. Louis and Chicago these days.

The State-Journal Register in Springfield reports that Amtrak says that more than 572,000 people boarded that runs between the two cities for the just-completed federal fiscal year.

That is about 13 percent more passengers than took the same train the year before -- making the route the seventh fastest of more than 50 routes Amtrak operates in the United States.
